This is the classic spelling game. The word is
spoken (and optionally displayed) and you must spell it. The program is run
by selecting Spelling Bee from the main menu screen. The game uses all the words
from your word list, in a random fashion. You play the game until all words
have been used or until you click Stop. Clicking Help or pressing
will
bring up this screen of information.
You hear a word by clicking the Say Word button
or pressing
. You can also display the word by making the desired choice
within the Display Word? frame. Note proper use of this game assumes you have
recorded your spelling list according the directions for the Record List option
in the List Editor. If any recordings are missing, the game will simply display
the word with no speech provided. Once the word is spoken, you spell the word
by selecting the letters in order. You can press the letters on the keyboard
to spell the word or use the mouse (just click on the desired letter). You are
given three tries to spell each word. You can say the word again, but this counts
as a try. You can say the word three times before you have to try to spell the
word. The fewer tries you need to spell a word, the more points you score. After
spelling the word correctly or after using your three tries, the correct word
spelling is given to you. Click Next Word to go to the next word in the list.
The Spelling Bee screen also shows you how many
words are left in the list and your current score. Once you have finished Spelling
Bee (either by trying all words in the list or stopping the game), your score
will be given to you and a list of the words you had trouble with will be provided.
At this point, you will be returned to the Spelling Games main menu. Here, you
can play another game, load another word list, or Exit the program.
Mixed Case Lists: If you use the mouse to enter
your answers, Spelling Bee will convert your response to the proper case. If
you type in the answers from the keyboard, the typed letters must be of proper
case to receive credit for a correct answer.
