When we at 3A Studios set out to create a children's "edutainment" title, our focus was as much on entertainment as it was education. We admittedly did not adhere to a lot of focus group testing. Nor did we seek much inspiration from the world of traditional educational computer games. Instead we drew our inspiration from our own childhood favorites such as Jim Hensen's Muppets, classic Warner Bros. cartoons, and the old Jay Ward animated TV classics like Peabody's Improbable History.
Of course watching Sherman and Mr.Peabody travel through time in the "Wayback MAChine" was probably not the best way to learn about the history of Western Civilization, and it certainly shouldn't be the only way. But taken as just a part of life's mix, we think it was definitely a very fun way. This is the spirit in which we created The Hula Hamsters.
Though officially for kids ages 3 to 8, our goal was to reach several audiences; Pre-verbal children will enjoy the characters, sounds, and colors; Young kids will be challenged by the math and memory games; Older kids will enjoy the zany storylines; And parents will appreciate the wit and humor.
