You now have a chance to win a gold medal with Gold Medal Math! As a "Mathlete" test your math skills as you bobsled down a narrow chute, pole vault to record heights, or strive for that perfect 10 in gymnastics. For each event, you try to answer as many problems as you can in 1 minute. Your performance in each event is based on the number of problems you answer correctly. Through multiple skill levels, you can use your knowledge in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in order to achieve a personal best or possibly set a new world record. Other events include snowboarding, 90 meter ski jump, figure skating, downhill skiing, long jump, javelin, and diving. See sample Gold Medal Math problems.
Philosophy
Gold Medal Math was designed and developed by a group of elementary math teachers in order to sharpen and reinforce students' math skills. Getting back to the basics was a key element in designing this program. By the time kids get to the 6th grade, they often make simple mistakes in their mathematical calculations and at times forget some basic math facts. Many students tend to second guess themselves and answer problems with uncertainty. Gold Medal Math requires kids to answer math problems quickly. Students in turn will develop stronger self esteem and become more confident in their math skills. The goal of Gold Medal Math is to encourage students to hone and develop their math skills and to achieve greater confidence in their math abilities in a fun and engaging manner.
